The 2007 Philadelphia Scholastic Officials Camp will be
conducted on the campus of LaSalle University at the air
conditioned Tom Gola Arena in the Hayman Center. The
camp will be held in conjunction with the La Salle Explorer
Team Basketball Camp. All basketball officials, both male
and female, who are interested in becoming better officials
are invited to attend. Enrollment will be limited to the first
60 officials to submit their deposits.
PURPOSE
Philadelphia Scholastic Officials Camp is designed to
provide a more efficient system for the advancement of
aspiring basketball officials. This camp provides a great
opportunity for officials to advance to varsity level with
local high school assigners. This camp could be
instrumental in helping officials reach their goals for
inroads into the collegiate level as well.
FORMAT
The weekend format should allow you to minimize any
absence from work. Registration will begin on Friday,
June 8, 2007, at 4:30 p.m. with a mandatory staff meeting
at 5:15 p.m. The camp will run from 6:00 p.m., Friday,
June 8, 2007, until 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 10, 2007. All
changes must be approved prior to arrival. Officials will
be under constant supervision during the camp and are
required to fully participate during the camp.
BEGINNING OFFICIALS
An outstanding 6-to-1 official-to-mentor ratio will
provide an excellent opportunity for individual
attention enhancing your mechanics and experience.
VETERAN OFFICIALS
This camp provides an opportunity to enhance your
skills, techniques, and advance your career within a
3-man officiating crew.
COST
The cost of the camp is $150.00. A $100.00
non-refundable deposit is required. Payment is
due no later than May 31, 2007. Parking will
be provided free of charge at the Hayman Center.
GAMES
All games will be played indoors using National
Federation rules. Outstanding team competition
will allow for closely contested games. A
select number of games will be videotaped for
detailed review. (Campers must provide their
own tape.)
CLASSROOM
Classroom instruction will be used to discuss
game situations and rule interpretations.
Veteran collegiate officials will discuss how
they have progressed through the officiating
ranks.
